Sam’s Club

I worked on the Sam’s Club account at VIA for the last three years. During that time I was a Senior Production Designer for the account in charge of creating everything from their annual Christmas catalogs, the quarterly produced Instant Savings Books, billboards, flyers, print ads, FSI’s, postcards, emails, splash pages, digital banner ads and all forms of social media. My job also included retouching photography from photo shoots, going on press checks around the US to guarantee product quality, and help produce the brand guidelines for Sam’s Club. Because I was the Senior Production Designer on the acoount, my job also included designing and implementing various new production procedures and standards as needed for VIA such as new work flow processes and/or InDesign/Photoshop templates for print and social media work.

Shutterfly TV Props

For the Shutterfly TV spot which can be viewed on youtube here, my job was to create some of the props for the shoot.

Each of the shots of the website shown on the TV was actually made from an Illustrator file I created based on the shutterfly website rather then the actual website itself since the visual quality of the Illustrator file would look much better.

The biggest challenge was creating the actual books used in the commercial. The commercial was being shot over 3 days. The decision of which actors were being used in the commercial was not finalized until the first day of shooting and that meant that the first day of shooting was a still photo shoot creating the images to be used to create the shutterfly books needed to create the commercial. Because of the timeline usedto shoot the commercial, this meant that the shutterfly book needed to be used in the commercial had to be made overnight so the scenes with the actors interacting with shutterfly books with the actors pictures could be shot the next day. Since all of shutterfly’s books are made in China, this was a problem. There was no time for the books to be made the traditional way a shutterfly book would normally be made.

The solution was to have several blank shutterfly books on hand at VIA. After the still photo shoot on the first day of shooting, the photos were sent to VIA, placed in the shutterfly templates and used to create the shutterfly books used in the commercial. We created about 12-15 books and sent them overnight to be used the next day for the rest of the shoot.

TD Ameritrade Thank You Box

This was a box constructed to send to TD Ameritrade after their visit to The VIA Agency. The challenge was to create 10 box interiors in 2 days that had a professional and personal touch to hold a box of chocolates, boot grease, notebook and pen, all items with various depths and sizes.

The solution was to hand cut custom holes out of foam to hold each of the pieces being sent, so the visual difference between the various objects was minimized. The cut foam was then covered in black silk and the entire inside topped with black foam core.

The final touch was having a personal letter on the top of each box and having the entire package sealed with a red wax seal. The seal was handmade by a friend of mine out of silver.

Welch’s Webpage

Webpage made for the Welch’s website.

Viewers could watch videos promoting Welch’s products to unlock redeemable coupons. The point of the page design was to create something that reflected the established brand look and feel while also being fun and interesting to encourage visitor engagement.

Created at The VIA Agency.
